For my 3rd and final essay, I have to write how narrative plays a role in my life, and how I either approve or disapprove the use/power of narrative. For this essay I will need to use multiple techniques within the paper to heighten what my point is. Some of these techniques (besides linguistic), include visual, audio, spatial and gestural mode. For me, I think the three modes I will include will be visual, spatial and gestural. I know that I want to focus my essay on how narrative has a positive influence on how I perceive myself and others, so I can use the modes to further get this point across. For visual I’m hoping to use different fonts, colors, and sizes to really diminish or boost the quotes I use. For instance,  when I use Julie Becks’ essay “Life’s Stories”, I probably will bold it, increase it and make it a “loud” font because those are the quotes I will agree with/use for my argument. On the other hand, when I use Galen Strawson’s “I am not a Story”, I might make his quotes smaller and a grey color to make it less prominent, in order to make it clear I do not agree with him. Also when using visual mode I will include pictures that correspond with my ideas, either metaphorically or literally. When I use spatial techniques, I will play around with the linguistic and visual mode and space out my words carefully and purposefully to create suspense and mix up the organization a bit to add some spice. Gestural will be pictures of moods and expressions put on my paper to coney how I felt/am feeling about the topic.
