Preparation for Licensure and Transition to Professional Practice

Through the many ATI test taking and reflecting upon the individualized performance profiles, I was able to alter how I take tests, what worked out best for me, and things I continually needed to improve upon. Some of these things included the need to take my ATIs in a comfortable, quiet environment with soft music on in the background. I found that taking the exams with the TV on, or when my roommates were around, my score and/or time on the test was not as good compared to other tests. I also learned to reread key words to understand what the question was asking so I could try and pick out the best response. I used the content gaps to gain mastery by doing the remediations and the three critical point sheets, mainly using the ATI sources. By doing this I could learn an extended amount of information on the missed topics, and found myself recalling back information on future ATI’s, solely based on what I had looked up from past exam remediations. I also used the textbooks if I thought that the ATI resources did not have everything I was looking for. Some self-care strategies that I adopted during the ATI process is to have better organization. I wanted to make sure I never missed an assignment and to give myself the time I need to complete the tests and remediations, so I organized my time wisely which is something I’m not particularly good at doing. I will use all of these skills and all of the content that I have learned to better myself in my preparation for the NCLEX. I will not have strict rules and submission dates when taking practice tests and will not have anyone to tell me to sit and study. I will now need to take what I learned about organization, time management, environmental control, and self-care acts to aid me in these next few weeks before the licensure exam, and through my transition into practice. I will need to hold myself accountable, but I am happy to have gained so many tools through the ATI process.
